Lantau Island

The biggest Island in the Territory. Plenty of good hiking here on the 70km Lantau Trail, great beaches but we only had time for the famous Po Lin Monastery with its 'Big Buddha'.

Seated on the Ngong Ping Plateau and surrounded by mountains is the Temple complex, reminding one of a Chinese Opera set. Here is the huge Tian Tan Buddha, at the top of a flight of 268 steps, this 250 tonne, 34 metre high statue is reputed to have cost 68 million dollars to build, and what an awesome sight it is!
